CORPUS CHRISTI — Los Fresnos went toe-to-toe against state-ranked Lake Travis in Game 1 of their Region IV-6A DI Semifinal Playoff Series at Whataburger Field in Corpus Christi on Friday and entered the seventh inning tied with two runs apiece.

The Falcons fought their way back from a two-run deficit to tie things with two runs in the top of the sixth.

In the bottom of the seventh, however, the Cavaliers loaded the bases with a single, double and intentional walk. That set up a Nelson Molina walk-off RBI-single with a line drive to center field for the 3-2 Lake Travis win.

The Falcons finished the game with two hits, but that was all they needed to tie things at 2-2 in the top of the sixth. Joaquin Alvarado led the inning off with a walk and Derek Garcia reached on an error. With runners on second and third, Alvarado took advantage of a wild pitch for one run and Aleck Rodriguez hit an infield single to second to score Garcia.

Los Fresnos starting pitcher Joaquin Cavazos allowed two earned runs off five hits and three walks with one strikeout in four innings. Reliever Joshua Laster pitched the final 2.2 innings and allowed one earned run off four hits and two walks with two strikeouts.

Game 2 between Los Fresnos (30-5-2) and Lake Travis (23-9-3) is scheduled for a noon start at Whataburger Field in Corpus Christi. Game 3, if necessary, will follow 45 minutes after the conclusion of Game 2.
