RIO GRANDE CITY, Texas – Rose Benavidez, president of Starr County Industrial Foundation and a South Texas College board trustee, is set to announce her candidacy for Starr County Judge.
Longtime Starr County Judge Eloy Vera has announced he is not running for re-election.
Benavidez says her campaign kickoff event will be held at the Julabe Event Center in Rio Grande City on June 19.

Benavidez provided this commentary on her social media platforms:
Greetings, friends and family.
Together, we have traveled a journey of public service that has yielded expansive growth and progress in our Starr County community, but our work is not finished.
Along the way, I have had the privilege of serving with many of you and your examples of commitment have only strengthened my resolve.
That is why I am excited to invite you to join me on Thursday, June 19, 2025, as I announce my Candidacy for the Office of Starr County Judge and formally KICKOFF our Campaign.
Our efforts have allowed me to gain invaluable experience that will help guide us as we embark on a new chapter filled with hope, promise and opportunity. Together, we will build on our shared success. Together, we will rise to new heights.
Your continued support is crucial to this movement, and your presence is vital to the cause. I cannot wait to see you there and begin this next phase with you by my side.
Grateful and Blessed,
Rose
