MAVERICK COUNTY, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A Roma city employee was killed Friday in a rollover crash near Eagle Pass, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

According to DPS, a 2005 white Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck was traveling westbound on US 277, eight miles east of Eagle Pass, when the truck's left rear tire blew out, causing it to swerve off the roadway into the north bar ditch.

The truck overturned, ejecting three of its four passengers. The truck then struck a private fence and came to rest on its right side, according to a news release.

The driver was taken to Fort Duncan Medical Center in Eagle Pass, and two passengers were airlifted from the scene to University Hospital in San Antonio.

The third passenger, identified as 30-year-old Samantha Serna of Roma, was airlifted to Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio. Serna was pronounced dead at the hospital.

DPS troopers continue to investigate the fatal crash.

On Monday, the city of Roma released a statement on the passing of Serna:

"It is with profound sadness that the City of Roma mourns the passing of one of our valued employees, Samantha Serna, who was just 30 years old. Samantha was more than a dedicated public servant — she was part of our City of Roma family, and her passing leaves a deep void in our hearts."

The city went on to say, "Moments like these remind us how fragile life truly is and how important it is to stand together — in faith, compassion, and unity. Let us move forward with humility and kindness as we support a family that is truly in need of our love and strength."

Funeral arrangements for Serna have not been announced.
