BROWNSVILLE, Texas – Megan Rodriguez, community and economic development agent for Prairie View A&M Extension, says the recent 2025 BID Academy Summer Sprint was a great success.
The week-long event was held at the eBridge Center for Business & Commercialization in association with Brownsville Community Improvement Corporation (BCIC).
The BID Academy is designed to help companies get HUD certified. HUD stands for Historically Underutilized Business.
Normally, the format is to have the academy stretch over seven to nine weeks. For the first time in the Rio Grande Valley it was held over one week.

“So incredibly proud of this class. Congratulations to our 2025 BID Academy Summer Sprint. We had 22 small businesses graduate and I can’t wait to see them flourish with opportunities getting government contracts,” Rodriguez said, in a posting on social media.
Rodriguez gave a shoutout to BCIC. “This team is amazing and they have always championed our work here in Brownsville.”
Rodriguez said the weeklong sprint format was such a success she will be holding another one in the Fall. “Same place, same time. See you there,” she said.
While the event was taking place, the Rio Grande Guardian secured this interview with Rodriguez:
