HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A roadway in Harlingen will be closed temporarily to transport the remains of a fallen Border Patrol agent to Brownsville.
Border Patrol Agent Eric Cespedes, 38, died by drowning on Friday while rescuing his children from a rip current at South Padre Island.
Cespedes was transported to Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen after several attempts at CPR, where he later died.
His body will be transported on Tuesday to a funeral home in Brownsville to proceed with his funeral services.
The north and southbound lanes of Ed Carey Drive from Pease Street to Jones Street will be closed to transport Cespedes at 12:30 p.m.
The roadway is estimated to be closed for one hour.
Harlingen police ask drivers to use alternate routes if possible and to expect delays in the area.
