The McAllen City Commission election saw one incumbent succeed in retaining his seat while another lost to a new face on the commission.
In the District 1 race, incumbent Tony Aguirre secured 980 votes out of 1,474, earning the majority, 66%. On the other hand, his challenger, Tim Wilkins, fell short with only 494 votes, equaling 34%.

Aguirre has been on the commission since 2021. This makes the third race Wilkins lost for District 1.
In the District 3 race, incumbent Omar Quintanilla will be saying goodbye to the commission after only receiving 374 votes out of 874, equaling 43%. Meanwhile, his challenger, Rolando “Rolly” Rios secured an even 500 votes, totaling 57% and earning his spot on the commission.

Quintanilla had been on the commission since 2017.
In total, 2,348 votes were cast across both races.
Voters who cast their ballots early by mail numbered 60 whilst 1,825 appeared in person.
On election day, 463 voters showed up to the polls, located at Gonzalez Elementary and Achieve Early College at Lincoln HS, to cast their ballot
The results will be made official after they are canvassed at the regular McAllen City Commission Meeting on Monday, May 12.
