RIO HONDO, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Life skill students from Rio Hondo High School built a 24-foot homecoming mum to capture the heart of their spirit.

Other clubs, such as Art, Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America, Band, and the yearbook, also contributed to the mum by adding ribbons and other pieces to help make it unique for the entire school.

Nicole Russeau, Life Skills teacher, says that students were able to utilize their practical skills, such as cutting, stapling, measuring, and problem-solving.

The idea to create something special for homecoming came from Rio Hondo High School principal Amanda Cardenas, who challenged the school.

Russeau says that they gladly accepted and gathered to work as a team to get it done in about four days.
