WHAT:
Rio Grande Valley Vipers Wheelchair Basketball Team will take on the Corpus Christi Rimz Adaptive Sports Team in “Battle of the South II”, a friendly exhibition wheelchair basketball game promoting inclusion, adaptive athletics, and community connection, while also serving as a social event for the athletes.
The DHR Health Neuro Therapy Institute is spearheading the local basketball wheelchair team to help bring more adaptive sports to the region. The current team is co-ed and is comprised of adults who have a spinal cord injury, amputation, or spina bifida. DHR Health has purchased special adaptive wheelchairs that will help each player propel themselves independently and safely and have had several practice sessions with the support of the City of Edinburg Parks and Recreation Department.
The Rio Grande Valley Vipers Wheelchair Basketball Team hopes to play competitively next year as members of the National Wheelchair Basketball Association.
