Rio Grande Valley recovers as floodwaters recede from record rain

RIO GRANDE VALLEY, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A few days have passed following a record-breaking rainfall, and the Valley continues to recover from heavy floods.

The heavy rains significantly damaged properties, cars, and buildings across the Rio Grande Valley.

As of Saturday, March 29, many roads are still flooded and city leaders are continuing to help their community by any means necessary.

On Friday, Willacy, Hidalgo, and Cameron County issued a disaster declaration in the event of severe weather conditions.

On Saturday, Gov. Greg Abbott issued a disaster declaration for the Rio Grande Valley.

In an interview, Danny Ramirez, Pharr EMS Chief and Emergency Management Coordinator, said that the Pharr Public Works crew is now moving the pumps as the floodwaters have receded.

"It is an unprecedented amount of water that has come down, but we are doing our best to make sure that we try move that water out," said Ramirez.
