RIO GRANDE CITY, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Two Rio Grande City employees were arrested on drug charges Tuesday.

Ricardo Olivarez and Jason Martinez Jr., were arrested on charges of manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance, a news release from the Starr County District Attorney's Office stated.

On Tuesday, the 229th Judicial District Attorney's Office HIDTA Task Force, in collaboration with the DEA McAllen Field Office and Rio Grande City police, conducted several search warrants in Rio Grande City.

The searches led to the seizure of drugs and assets, as well as the arrests of Olivarez and Martinez.

According to the release, Olivarez was an employee of the Rio Grande City Public Maintenance Department at the time of his arrest. Martinez, also known as "Chucky," was an employee of the Rio Grande City Parks and Recreations Department.

"The effectiveness of these arrests could not have been successful without the collaboration of the involved law enforcement agencies as well as the cooperation of the City of Rio Grande City," the release stated.

The district attorney's office added that further arrests and enforcement is expected.
