RGV’s first IKEA to officially open Oct. 1

The wait is officially over.

IKEA U.S. announced Wednesday its first location in the Rio Grande Valley will open to the public next week. IKEA McAllen-Pharr will open at 10 a.m. on Oct. 1 at the Pharr Towne Center, located at 500 N. Jackson Road.

“We’re proud to deepen our roots in Texas with the opening of IKEA McAllen-Pharr,” CEO and Chief Sustainability Officer of IKEA U.S. Javier Quiñones said in a news release. “This store reflects our commitment to meeting customers where they are, and offering smart, affordable solutions that make everyday life better.”

The store will feature three room sets for customers to explore, with IKEA officials adding those spaces have been “thoughtfully designed” and will showcase “local living” solutions reflecting the “unique everyday needs” of the Valley.

Officials continued to say the IKEA McAllen-Pharr store will have more than 1,600 products available for immediate takeaway, with the full IKEA range available to be ordered online with free store pickup or low-cost home delivery. Additionally, there will also be an “As-is section” offering used and discontinued items.

Lastly, the store will give visitors the Swedish food experience with a variety of hot and cold favorites that can be enjoyed in-store or to-go.

Prior to the store’s official opening, IKEA is also inviting the community to attend the grand opening where the first 100 children will receive soft toys and early visitors can enjoy giveaways that include IKEA products and gift cards while supplies last.

“We invite the Rio Grande Valley community to join us to experience the IKEA difference firsthand,” Quiñones said, with the release noting those interested in arriving early are allowed to begin lining up at 7 a.m.

“We’re excited to celebrate this milestone with the Rio Grande Valley,” Keena Garcia, market manager and spokesperson for IKEA U.S., said in the release. “Bringing our unique shopping experience to McAllen-Pharr is part of our ongoing effort to make affordable home solutions more accessible to the many people across the country.”
