HARLINGEN, Texas – Mario Reyna, coordinator of the Prosperity Task Force, has provided an early heads up about an event being staged by one of the members of the group – AltaCair Foundation.

AltaCair is hosting  its “Accelerator 2025 – The State of Health” at the Harlingen Convention Center on Sept. 4, 2025.

Co-Sponsors are Healthier Texas and UTRGV Health.

The program title is: “The State of Health – Understanding the Impact of Non-Medical Drivers in the Rio Grande Valley.”

“I’m excited to invite you to a powerful and purpose-driven event that goes beyond discussion — it’s about action, connection, and transformation,” Reyna said.

Reyna predicted the event will provide “unique, solutions-focused convening where we’ll explore the often-overlooked forces shaping our health: transportation, nutrition, and economic access.”

In an email to Prosperity Task Force members and supporters, Reyna explained why the event matters.

We all know that healthcare doesn’t start at the clinic — it starts in our neighborhoods, on our streets, and at our kitchen tables,” Reyna said.

“This gathering will bring together leaders across sectors — health professionals, policymakers, transit and planning officials, food system advocates, and community organizations — to confront the root causes of poor health in our region and build a shared roadmap toward a healthier, more resilient Rio Grande Valley.”

Reyna continued: “From a powerful keynote address to interactive roundtables on transportation and nutrition, and an immersive poverty simulation, this day is designed not just to inform, but to ignite collaboration and drive forward-thinking solutions.”

Reyna listed four things attendees would gain:

  • New insights on how infrastructure and food access impact health outcomes
  • Opportunities to connect with change-makers across sectors
  • A chance to shape real-world policy recommendations
  • Access to a post-event report and resource guide that will inform future investment and advocacy

“Whether you’re working on the front lines or shaping the systems that serve our communities, your voice and perspective are critical in this moment. We have to build a better future for our community together,” Reyna added.

“Please let Dr. Rashmi Chandran know if you’re able to attend, and feel free to share this with colleagues who should be in the room. We hope to see you there — ready to lead, listen, and leave inspired.”

Chandran is CEO of the AltaCair Foundation.
