Residents, tourists visit South Padre Island for Easter weekend

SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Residents and tourists are heading to South Padre Island to celebrate Easter weekend.

As weather begins to warm up in the Rio Grande Valley, people are headed to the shore to have fun.

"Everyone should come. The temperature is great," said Linda Sauceda, of Tamaulipas.

ValleyCentral spoke with another visitor from Monterrey who is excited to visit South Padre Island for the first time.

"I wanted to see the beach and I'm interested to see what it will be like," said Ramon Rodriguez. "We've been here to the United States but have never been to South Padre Island. We're here for the beautiful beaches."

Valley wind machine cranks up

A couple from Minnesota is visiting South Padre Island to celebrate Easter and their wedding anniversary.

Jackie and Joe Shields met at South Padre Island and have been together since.

"We met here on spring break in 2006," said Jackie Shields. "We haven't been back since so we're excited."

Jesus Nunez Jr., a resident of Laredo, is also having twice the fun by celebrating Easter and his 21st birthday in South Padre Island.

"This is out first time coming to South Padre," Nunez said. "I'm looking forward to having fun with my family, and not just at the beach, but every part of the island."
