MCALLEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The father of Ryan Luis Mosqueda reported his son missing hours before he took an AR-15 and shot at Border Patrol agents in a federal building.

An incident report obtained by ValleyCentral detailed the moments leading up to the shooting that cost Mosqueda his life.

At 2:30 a.m. Monday, Jose Mosqueda told his son Ryan to go to bed since they would be leaving from Weslaco to Michigan in the morning. According to the report, Ryan told his father that he wanted to take his Chevrolet Cobalt, but his dad told him to wait until December when they would return.

After the disagreement, Jose took a shower and Ryan went to his room. When Jose got out of the shower he noticed his son was not in the residence. He went outside to find that he had driven off in his Cobalt.

Jose went looking for his son.

At 3:48 a.m. he was pulled over for being on his phone and reported his son as a missing person. Jose told authorities that his son had an AR-15 and a pistol in the trunk of his car.

As previously reported by ValleyCentral, a few hours later Ryan opened fire on Border Patrol agents at a federal building in McAllen. He injured three people and was ultimately killed by Border Patrol personnel.

The 27-year-old man was allegedly battling undiagnosed mental health issues, according to his brother who spoke with our sister station WOOD.

Ryan's brother Joe Mosqueda told WOOD that his brother began experiencing mental health issues about a year ago when he became "obsessed with the news."

His brother said he never heard him talk about immigration or U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The attack, he said, was “out of the blue.”
