Rep. Vicente Gonzalez pushes for border airport security

HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Congressman Vicente Gonzalez and New York Congresswoman Elise Stefanik are introducing a bill that would designate border airports as ports of entry.

The Border Airport Fairness Act would eliminate user fees for certain airports that are within 30 miles of the U.S.-Mexico border, including the Valley International Airport in Harlingen.

"As our region continues to rapidly grow, it is essential that our airports and transportation infrastructure not only keep up with increased demand for commercial travel but also continue to support critical federal operations. This legislation is an investment in our future," Gonzalez stated.

The bill would help get more international travel options and expand access to critical services from U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
