PHARR, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Reliant Energy is donating $25,000 to the Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley in response to the severe flooding that struck South Texas on March 27.

According to the food bank's news release, the contribution will directly support the Food Bank RGV's ongoing disaster relief efforts, helping provide food and essential resources to families impacted by the floods.

"The recent flood left many families in our region without access to basic necessities," said Libby A. Saenz, CEO of Food Bank RGV. "Thanks to Reliant's generous support, we're able to continue bringing critical relief to the communities hit hardest and help families continue to recover."

Prior to the flooding, the food bank was already facing increased demand and depleted shelves due to current economic challenges. Since then, the food bank has been working steadily to respond.

"We wanted to help our South Texas neighbors who were affected by the recent flooding. That's why we chose to support Food Bank RGV and the great work they do day in and day out to combat hunger and food insecurity," said Sidney Evans, director of community engagement, Reliant.

All donations made to the Food Bank RGV directly support its mission, with 100% of contributions staying local to help families in need across the Rio Grande Valley.
