SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Region One kicked off its 29th annual Technology Conference on Tuesday.
The three-day event features sessions and workshops designed to meet the diverse needs of professionals in areas such as information technology, network infrastructure, instructional technology, STEM, cybersecurity and artificial intelligence in education.
This year’s conference was themed after the Olympics to inspire attendees to go for gold with the latest in professional development and innovation.
“Our theme for this year was, the Olympics, so throughout the last couple of months we’ve actually been promoting it with students actually running towards all the way from Laredo covering all the counties that Region One covers," said Region One Deputy Director Adrian Garcia.
The conference features nearly a hundred vendors, making this the largest convention yet for Region One.
Educators are excited to learn from the conference and apply the knowledge in their classrooms.
“A lot of the teachers unfortunately can’t make it out so we’re really the ones that come and get the ideas and taken back to the districts so we can share all of those resources,” said Thelma Fraga, Laredo Independent School District Digital Learning Specialist.
The conference supports international tech vendors and various local tech companies from across the Rio Grande Valley.
Jorge Díaz, owner of Toughdog Security Systems in Pharr, looks forward to servicing more educators from the event.
“Our new products, which are the interactive whiteboards and the LED screens over here, that can be customized in any way or form so that, potentially school districts can use them," said Díaz.
