RAYMONDVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Raymondville Independent School District is implementing enhanced safety protocols to ensure the safety and well-being of students participating in outdoor activities during this extreme heat.

Students participating in outdoor activities such as sports camps, summer band and athletic workouts are being prioritized by the district to ensure they have a safe and comfortable environment to practice in.

The district is creating cool zones at its outdoor activities where students can get shade and stand near evaporative cooling fans.

Ice towels and sponges will also be available to help students cool down.

"Students will have unlimited access to cool water from Waterboy automatic water dispensers, with regular water breaks scheduled every 15 to 20 minutes," the district stated in a news release.

In addition to these outdoor steps, the district is also adjusting scheduling to have students outside during the cooler parts of the day. The district is also taking the time to educate its students on the signs of heat-related illnesses and encouraging them to report any symptoms immediately.
