Rain and thunderstorms likely on Thursday

HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Valley has a pretty good chance at seeing some rain tomorrow. A weak cold front will be sagging into our area and will likely stall out. This front won't be bringing us a push of cold air, but it will be making rain likely with the possibility of some strong thunderstorms as well. Where it decides to stall will impact our rain chances.

The National Storm Prediction Center has indicated that there is a marginal risk of severe weather down into the ranchland areas of Willacy, Hidalgo, and Starr Counties, indicated in the darker green shade tonight into tomorrow morning. The marginal risk is the lowest of the five risk levels issued by the Storm Prediction Center. The lighter green areas we can expect general thunderstorms that could be strong. The main threats will be locally heavy rain, strong/damaging winds, and frequent lightning. Rain totals of 1"-2" are possible in a short amount of time, which could lead to some nuisance flooding in the typical low-lying areas that are prone to such things.

While tomorrow will be the bullseye for our main rain and thunderstorm activity, we will continue to see conditions for isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers for the next couple of days. An added benefit from the rain activity tomorrow will be some cooler temperatures, with our highs tomorrow likely to stay in the low 90s instead of the triple digits that much of the Upper Valley will see today (Wednesday).
