Rain and thunderstorms coming back to the Valley

HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The weather pattern for the Rio Grande Valley is becoming a bit more active the rest of this week and more so by the weekend.

Now through Friday the focus for rain and thunderstorms will be the mountains of Mexico during the overnight hours each night. Energy and moisture will be driven up and over the mountains which provides lift which generates clouds, rain, and thunderstorms. Those thunderstorms then roll down the opposite side toward the U.S.

Most of the activity will die off before making to the Valley, but some is expected to survive for the late overnight hours before sunup.

Another facet of the forecast will be the chance for rain and thunderstorms this weekend. This activity could happen day or night and bring heavier rainfall. While severe storms are not expected, we cannot rule out pockets of heavy rain. Some portions of the Valley could see 2 to 3 inches by Sunday.

Come Sunday night the mechanism driving the risk of rain is forecast to dissipate leaving next week with partly cloudy skies.
