HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — This week may be hot and sunny, but the weekend should see a change with a chance for rain lasting several days across the Rio Grande Valley.

The secret is in the sauce. A tropical system is pushing north along Mexico's Pacific coast, eventually driving inland across northern Mexico by the weekend.
This weakening tropical system will be in the right place to drive Pacific moisture toward Texas, including the Valley.
The added flow of moisture will act as fuel for rain development starting Saturday.

A second element, a cold front, will push south across Texas heading toward the Valley. This front should stall just to the north but be in a good position to lend a hand in generating rain and a few embedded thunderstorms by early next week.
The wettest days look to be Sunday through Tuesday. The numbers are still cooking, but the forecast is leaning towards at least one to two inches of rain Valley-wide wide with some higher amounts in isolated spots.

So far, this looks like a nice rain with embedded thunder with little sign of severe weather potential.
