Race for Primera Mayor headed to runoff

HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Unofficial election results show the race for Primera Mayor is headed to a runoff.

Incumbent Robert D. Kusch, Jr. garnered 79 votes or 31% compared to Luis E. Casas, who earned 101 or 40% of the votes. Gus Cavazos trailed behind with 74 votes or 29% with 100% of precincts reporting.

Candidates who earn less than 51% of the votes in an election with more than two candidates are forced to go to a runoff.
