A fatal shooting in rural Edinburg is now being classified as a cold case following the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office’s call for help from the public.
In a Monday news release, the sheriff’s office said they are asking the public for help “in generating new leads in a cold case homicide investigation.”
The homicide in question refers to a shooting in early September where deputies responded to a report of gunfire in the 8200 block of E. Curry Road in rural Edinburg.
Upon arrival, deputies found 67-year-old Jorge Luis Lopez lying face down in a driveway with multiple gunshot wounds, according to the release. Lopez was transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.
“HCSO Investigators continue their efforts to identify the person or people responsible for the killing, but despite their efforts, the case remains unsolved,” the release stated.
The sheriff’s office is asking anyone with information to call (956) 383-8114. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call Hidalgo County Crime Stoppers at (956) 668-8477. Anonymous tipsters can also provide information through the P3 TIPS app.
