CORPUS CHRISTI — One night after having success against the first of Dripping Springs’ two SEC baseball commits, PSJA High struggled with the second.
The Bears were held to just two hits in Game 2 of their Region IV-6A DII final as Dripping Springs topped PSJA 4-1 in a pitcher’s duel at Steve Chapman Field at Calallen High School to tie the series at 1-1.
Game 3 between No. 7 PSJA (32-4-1) and No. 4 Dripping Springs (27-10) is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start Saturday at Steve Chapman Field at Calallen High School.
“It’s a tough loss. I knew that was what we were going to see from (Dripping Springs pitcher) Taylor Tracey,” PSJA head coach Marco Guajardo said. “He had some really good stuff and a really tough changeup had us going.”

The Game 2 pitching matchup between the Bears and Tigers featured PSJA senior Jacob Delgadillo squaring off against Dripping Springs’ senior and Tennessee commit Tracey.
Delgadillo surrendered four earned runs off six hits with five strikeouts in 6.1 innings, while his counterpart Tracey pitched a complete game and gave up just one earned run and two hits while striking out 12.
Delgadillo also delivered PSJA’s only two hits of the evening off Tracey.

“We knew it was going to be that kind of game. Jacob held them to where we needed to, we just didn’t get the hits,” Guajardo said. “The only couple of hits were Jacob’s hits and we’re not going to score if we can’t hit. That’s the bottom line.”
Dripping Springs drew first blood with a sacrifice fly in the top of the first and PSJA responded with a walk by first baseman Nyles Alvarez and a deep double by Delgadillo to bring him across, tying things at 1-1 after one inning of play.
That was all the scoring PSJA would muster, however, as Delgadillo’s second hit came during the bottom of the sixth before he was left stranded.

Dripping Springs’ Tracey went 3-for-3 at the plate with two RBI and one walk, while Tristan Chiechanowicz finished 1-for-3 with two RBI.
Now, the Bears and Tigers will lock horns once more in Game 3 with a spot in next week’s state semifinals on the line. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Calallen.
“We’ve been playing with a lot of heart and we have to keep believing,” Guajardo said. “I think their two big guns are out, so I think we can hit anybody else they throw at us, so we’re going to be ready.”
