PROGRESO, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Progreso Public Works Director, Jose "Borrado" Moreno, was fired Wednesday as an employee of the City of Progreso.
ValleyCentral verified the termination letter sent to Moreno with City Manager Pete Trevino on Wednesday.
The letter informs him about his termination and asks him to surrender all city-owned property immediately.
Moreno's termination comes just two days after a high-stakes meeting where Moreno and other city leaders were discussed during executive session.
City Manager Pete Trevino, City Attorney Baltazar Salazar, and Mayor Hugo Gamboa were also discussed behind closed doors.
No action was taken.
City Attorney of Progreso, Baltazar Salazar, defended the decision to keep those discussions private after calling them personnel matters.
“It's not a secret. They voted on it, but they discussed it in executive session, and you don’t know what it is. And, at some point, you will find out. The vote is what is transparent; it was and was out in the public," Baltazar Salazar said.
