EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The person of interest in a burglary case that occurred early Thursday morning in Edinburg has been arrested, police confirmed Friday.
A tip was submitted to the police by a halfway house after surveillance video of the burglary was publicly shared online.
The surveillance video captured the person of interest looking through windows and walking around a property on the 1300 block of N. Closner Blvd.
After receiving the tip, police responded to the provided address on the 100 block of E. Van Week, where they found 48-year-old Gerardo Lopez Jr. walking in the area while allegedly intoxicated.
Photo courtesy of Edinburg PDLopez Jr. was arrested on a public intoxication charge and allegedly admitted to police that he was in the area when and where the burglary occurred.
He also admitted to having drugs at his apartment, police said.
Detectives executed a drug search warrant at his apartment, where a small amount of cocaine was recovered, along with a stolen speaker connected with the burglary.
Lopez faces charges of burglary of a building, two counts of possession of a controlled substance, and public intoxication.
He is scheduled to be arraigned at 1 p.m. on Friday.
