Police: Suspects steal, cross vehicle into Mexico on Easter Sunday

EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Two Edinburg residents were arrested for allegedly stealing and crossing a vehicle into Mexico on Easter Sunday.

The vehicle, a 2024 black Jeep Gladiator, was reported stolen from the 2400 block of Moonlight Lane in Edinburg at approximately 7 a.m.

The victim was able to track her vehicle to the Progreso Port of Entry by using a vehicle mobile app.

At the port of entry, federal officials alerted an Edinburg police officer about the stolen vehicle crossing into Mexico.

At 4:55 a.m. the following day, the vehicle was stopped as it re-entered the United States.

Both suspects, 22-year-old Yadhira Berenice Rodriguez and 18-year-old Ruby Zapata, were placed under arrest and transported to the Edinburg Police Department.

Rodriguez and Zapata face charges of auto theft.

The victim was transported to the port of entry where she recovered her vehicle.
