Police investigating racing, intoxication as possible factors in fatal San Juan crash

SAN JUAN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The San Juan Police Department is investigating possible factors for a crash that left one man dead and another hospitalized Tuesday evening.

Police responded to a crash that occurred at approximately 6:10 p.m., Tuesday at the 300 block of West FM 495 in San Juan involving a small SUV and a pickup truck that left one man dead and another hospitalized.

Trio sentenced for deadly home invasion in Edinburg

Police identified the driver of the small SUV as 22-year-old San Juan resident, Roberto Carlos Rios Rodriguez.

Rios was pronounced dead at the scene. The next of kin has been notified.

The driver of the pickup truck was unconscious and transported to a local hospital where he is in stable condition.

Harlingen police investigate motorcycle fatality

Preliminary investigations by San Juan police suggest intoxication and racing as possible contributing factors to the collision, according to a media release from San Juan Chief of Police, Leandro Sifuentes.

An investigation is ongoing to determine the exact cause of the crash.
