PORT ISABEL, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Point Isabel Independent School District announced Tuesday that it will offer free driver's education classes to students to help them receive their permit.
The program in use by the district is called Cruise Control, and it operates as a parent-taught driving course, where students complete the driving modules on campus with an instructor but log their actual driving hours with a parent or guardian.
Students receive their driving permit after completing the first module.
The program is designed to be completed in six months, culminating in students earning their driver's license.
The classes take place every Tuesday from 9 a.m. to noon.
