Photo Gallery: Grand opening of the new Hidalgo County Courthouse

EDINBURG — A grand opening ceremony was held here Thursday morning to formally open the Hidalgo County Courthouse.

The new courthouse had been in the making since late 2017 with construction beginning in 2018. It was originally slated to open in 2021, but was set back for various reasons, including the COVID-19 pandemic.

Back in late March, the county held a soft opening at the courthouse, but Thursday’s ceremony marked the official opening.

“This courthouse is more than a building—it’s a symbol of justice and community,” Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez said in a Tuesday news release. “It will serve as the centerpiece of our county for generations to come, providing a safe, efficient, and accessible space for the administration of justice.”
