PHARR, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The 2-month-old victim in a capital murder case out of Pharr had been dead for days before authorities conducted a wellness check, according to the Pharr Police Department.

Parents Miguel Ortiz Jr. and Karina Ramirez were charged with capital murder in connection with the baby's death.

A report made by Ortiz's friend turned into a wellness check after Ortiz allegedly claimed that his 2-month-old had died three days prior.

Police responded to the parents' residence on Sunday to conduct a wellness check, which led to a death investigation.

During the wellness check, Ramirez was carrying the deceased infant, who was wrapped in blankets.
