PHARR, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The annual World Elder Abuse Awareness Day Walk and Resource fair took place on Friday in Pharr.

Last year in Texas, Adult Protective Services received 125,732 intake reports statewide of suspected Abuse, Neglect, and Financial Exploitation.

"Our goal and mission for our nonprofit is to provide advocacy resources and financial assistance to our elderly and adults with disabilities in our community," said Dee Ochoa, Program Director for Silver Ribbon Community Partners. "The community needs to gather together to provide awareness to their neighbors, family, and friends. We may know somebody who's being abused or neglected, and we need to be able to know the signs to look out for."

If you suspect abuse, neglect, and financial exploitation of a vulnerable adult, you can make a report 24/7 via the toll-free hotline at 1-800-252-5400 or www.txabusehotline.org.
