PHARR, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The City of Pharr and Region One Education Service Center on Tuesday held the EMS Career Work-Based Learning: A Day of Hands-On Training.
The event held at the Pharr Event Center introduced over 100 high school students from various local school districts to careers in Emergency Medical Services (EMS).
"There's a big need for Emergency Medical Technicians. There's a national and a state shortage," said Danny Ramirez, EMS Chief for the City of Pharr. "Last year, the state had a grant that they tried to get more EMTs, and it was successful, but there's still a big demand, and it's a good certification to have, because as an EMT, you can work anywhere in the country."
Students participated in CPR training, Stop the Bleed instruction, real-world EMS scenarios, and a live panel discussion with active EMS professionals.
