PHARR, Texas – Pharr Economic Development Corporation and Region One Education Service Center held a joint press conference on July 9, 2025, to announce a partnership aimed at helping the residents of Pharr become certified educators.
They can do so through Region One ESC’s Teacher Alternative Certification Program, which removes financial barriers for participants. The certification can be obtained at no cost to participants.
The partnership is part of a broader effort supported by the Rio South Texas Education & Community Development Foundation, working alongside Region One ESC to address the urgent statewide need for certified teachers.
Victor Perez, president and CEO of the Pharr EDC, said the initiative specifically benefits Pharr residents interested in teaching in local classrooms by offering the certification program at no cost to participants.
“Investing in education is an investment in our community’s future. By supporting aspiring teachers, we are not only strengthening our local workforce but also ensuring that our children have access to quality educators right here in Pharr,” Perez said.
Dr. Daniel P. King, executive director of Region One, said local agencies and school systems are collaborating to provide financial assistance and resources, empowering candidates to achieve their teaching certification and make a lasting impact in Texas classrooms.
