A 21-year-old Peñitas man on Friday was sentenced to 38 years in prison for fatally shooting a 34-year-old Mission man in 2022.

David Robles pleaded guilty to murder for the death of Jessie Rey Saenz, court records show.

Saenz was shot and killed by Robles in the 1800 block of Chicago Street in rural Alton on May 5, 2022.

After the shooting, police responded to the location for a report of a possible drive-by shooting and found Saenz on the side of the road with gunshot wounds.

Witnesses told authorities that they saw passengers inside a white truck exchange gunfire with people inside the residence. One witness told investigators that Robles’ half-brother, Reynaldo Robles, had bullet holes in his white Chevrolet Silverado the day after Saenz’s death.

According to the release, both brothers and two juveniles were allegedly in the vehicle at the time of the shooting.

Authorities met with Robles after the shooting. He confessed and was arrested.
