PORT ISABEL, Texas (ValleyCentral) — An employee with Point Isabel Independent School District was arrested for allegedly sending harmful material to minors, police say.
Omar Vera was arrested on five counts of distribution of harmful material to a minor, Port Isabel police confirmed.
Vera was employed as a paraprofessional at Point Isabel High School. He has since been terminated.
Point Isabel ISD issued a statement regarding the arrest.
"The Point Isabel Independent School District has learned of the arrest of a former Point Isabel ISD employee. The district can confirm that this individual was employed at Port Isabel Early College High School. At this time, this individual is no longer an employee of the district."
According to police, Vera's bond is set to $25,000.
"The Point Isabel ISD will continue to cooperate fully with the investigating agencies involved in this case as the investigation proceeds," the statement continues.
