PD: Man arrested in fatal San Juan crash, classified as road rage incident

SAN JUAN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A man was arrested in connection to a fatal San Juan crash, which San Juan police are now classifying as a road rage incident.

Police responded to a crash on Tuesday evening at the 300 block of West FM 495 in San Juan involving a small SUV and a pickup truck that left one man dead and another hospitalized. Police identified the victim as 22-year-old Roberto Carlos Rios Rodriguez of San Juan.

Initially, it was believed racing was a factor in the accident, but upon further investigation, it has been reclassified as a road rage incident, according to a release from San Juan Chief of Police, Leandro Sifuentes.

Additionally, police identified and located a third vehicle, "that played a significant role in the event."

A man associated with the third vehicle was taken into custody and is scheduled to be arraigned Friday, police said.

According to police the incident began as road rage in Alamo and led into San Juan.

"Additionally, we wish to update on the condition of the driver of the white truck involved in the collision. The individual has not yet been identified and is currently in critical condition at a local hospital. Our thoughts are with the family of Roberto Carlos Rios Rodriguez and all those affected by this tragedy," a release stated.

The investigation remains active with further evidence collection and processing underway.
