McALLEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The McAllen Police Department arrested a man for allegedly assaulting a female officer in Downtown McAllen.
Sgt. John Saez with McAllen police told ValleyCentral, the suspect is in custody, the department is investigating the matter and will release more information about the offense as the investigation proceeds.
Videos on social media show a brawl that took place on the street in downtown McAllen, where officers are seen trying to control the situation. The video appears to show a man wearing a white t-shirt attacking a female officer on the floor before showing a clear image of the alleged suspect leaving the area.
The video shows the officer with visible injuries to her face. McAllen police have not released the identity of the suspect.
McAllen Mayor, Javier Villalobos, spoke out on his social media platform regarding the incident with the following statement, "I am embarrassed of the incident that occurred in downtown McAllen. Things will change. If you have knowledge of the assailant, please contact McAllen Crime Stoppers."
