PD: IDEA student detained for allegedly sending school threat via text

ELSA, Texas (ValleyCentral) — An IDEA student was taken into custody for allegedly sending a school threat through text message, authorities say.

At approximately 9:15 p.m. on Saturday, April 5, the Elsa Police Department received a report regarding a school threat directed toward IDEA Public School in Elsa.

According to a news release from Elsa PD, the text message received by a minor said, "Shoot up the school."

The minor who received the text message quickly informed their parents, who contacted the authorities regarding the threat.

Elsa PD investigators later discovered the suspect who sent the message was a 13-year-old IDEA student, the release added. The suspect was taken into custody and booked at the Hidalgo County Juvenile Detention Center.

The minor was charged with a terroristic threat causing fear of imminent serious bodily injury, a class A misdemeanor.
