PD: 14-year-old to face criminal charges following 3-vehicle crash

MERCEDES, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A teen may face criminal charges after Mercedes police say he was driving an SUV that caused a three-vehicle accident.

The crash happened Friday morning just after 7 a.m. at the intersection of Business 83 and Mile 1 East Road, according to a news release from the Mercedes Police Department.

Police say at the crash scene they learned a 14-year-old was driving a black Chevrolet Tahoe along with a minor as a passenger.

A preliminary investigation revealed the teen ran a red light, hit a white grey Honda Civic sedan and a white Ford F-150 pickup truck.

Both minors, along with the drivers of the other two vehicles, were taken to local hospitals with injuries.

Authorities are investigating how the teen was able to get access to the SUV. The teen driver is pending criminal charges.
