Two people are dead and criminal charges may follow in a “major” crash McAllen police say occurred in the wee hours of Saturday morning.
Sgt. John Saenz said in a McAllen Police Department news release that the crash occurred around 2:29 a.m. in the vicinity of North Second Street and Nolana Avenue.
The crash involved a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck and a Nissan Altima.
Although the circumstances leading up to the crash are not yet clear, Saenz said the driver of the Altima, identified as Juan Carlos Perez, 54, of McAllen was killed.
Gianncarlo Corriabustos, 20, of Pasadena, Texas, identified as a passenger in the Silverado, was also killed, according to police.
The driver of the Silverado, identified only as a 40-year-old male, is being treated in a local hospital.
“The cause of the collision remains under investigation,” Saenz said in the release, adding that “intoxication is suspected” and “criminal charges to follow.”
