Open auditions for ‘A Wrinkle in Time’ this weekend at Pharr Community Theater

The Pharr Community Theater, a nonprofit organization, announces its spring production of “A Wrinkle in Time,” adapted by Morgan Gould from the beloved novel by Madeleine L’Engle.

Dalia Bouchee will direct the play, which follows Meg Murry as she embarks on a perilous journey through time and space to rescue her father, who has vanished into the mysterious tesseract dimension. Accompanied by her gifted brother Charles Wallace, and their friend Calvin, Meg is guided by the enigmatic Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Who, and Mrs. Which. These celestial beings equip the young travelers with the strength and knowledge to confront the encroaching darkness represented by the ominous Red, in an epic battle between light and shadow.

Volunteer acting opportunities for the production includes roles for three young females, ages 12 to 17; six roles for young males ages 8 to 17; five roles for adult females ages 20 to 50; and five roles for adult males ages 20-40.

Open auditions are set for 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, and Sunday, Jan. 19, on a first-come basis at 213 W. Newcombe Ave. in Pharr. Sides from the script will be available at the audition for the different roles.

The first reading for those selected is set for 7 p.m. Jan. 26. Rehearsals will run until April 16, to be scheduled between 7 and 9:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. (Initially, children will be dismissed by 8:30 p.m.) There will be some time off in between for Spring Break and Easter.

Paid technical positions are available for individuals interested in areas such as stage management and others. Interested individuals, for technical positions, may submit resumes to dalliabouchee@gmail.com for more information.
