The risk of thunderstorms and severe weather is low for the Rio Grande Valley, but there could be lingering showers throughout the week, according to the National Weather Service of Brownsville.
Much of the Valley experienced a weak line of showers Tuesday morning, and there could be scattered showers through the rest of the day.
Bianca Garcia, lead meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Brownsville, said that they are monitoring some developing storms over the mountains in Mexico, as well as some showers and thunderstorms over Laredo.
“That activity might actually limit the severe potential heading into tonight because it will have already taken up some of that available energy, if that makes sense,” Garcia said. “So if we do get some thunderstorms developing off the mountains later this afternoon, it won’t really be able to tap into that energy that we had originally thought that we had, so that could be a limiting factor to the severe potential heading into tonight.”

She said that there is still potential for an isolated thunderstorm Tuesday night, but the chances are low. Even if a storm does not develop, she said that there is still a chance for rain continuing throughout the evening and into the rest of the week.
“We have some daily low rain chances,” Garcia said. “We’ll stay in this unsettled weather pattern that kind of helps promote not really a severe potential, at least for the next couple of days, but mainly the severe potential is for late tonight into early tomorrow morning, which is still fairly low.”
She said the chance for rain in the RGV will be between 20% and 40% Wednesday, and between 20% and 30% on Thursday through the weekend.
“There still could be an isolated, strong or severe thunderstorm, but most of the week is really more just your daily chances (of rain),” Garcia said. “It’s not really tied to any upper level system or any features that are going to bring in that severe potential. The main severe threat would be late tonight, early tomorrow.”
