North Texas man wanted for child sex assault, arrested at Progreso bridge

PROGRESO, Texas (ValleyCentral) — U.S. Customs and Border Protection arrested a man who was wanted in North Texas on a warrant for sexual assault of a child, authorities announced.

Emilio Torres Salas, 66, was arrested Monday at the Progreso International Bridge after an inspection revealed he had an outstanding arrest warrant out of Quitman, in Wood County.

"During secondary examination, CBP officers utilizing biometric verification and federal law enforcement databases verified his identity," CBP announced in a press release.

The warrant was for sexual assault of a child-continuous sexual abuse of a minor.

Salas was turned over to the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office deputies for further processing.

"Our frontline officers continue to maintain strict vigilance and that steadfastness resulted in the apprehension of a man wanted for sex crimes involving a child,” said Port Director Walter Weaver, Progreso and Donna Port of Entry. “Apprehensions of this heinous type clearly underscore the important work of our officers in keeping our communities secure.”
