New trail segments to enhance connectivity in Mission

MISSION, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Hidalgo County Precinct 2 Commissioner Eddie Cantu and the City of Mission held a groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday for five miles of a soon-to-be 15-mile Hike and Bike Trail.

Segment 1 extends from the Mission Trails at Los Ebanos Road to Bryan Road, continuing toward Anzalduas Highway. Segment 2 stretches from Bryan Road to Taylor Road in Mission.

"This is huge because it's 15 miles of uninterrupted trail. Instead of stopping at an intersection like a stop sign or a street light, you actually go under the roads. You go under Sherry Road, you go under Bryan, you go under Conway, you go under 10th Street. It's a game-changer, I'm so happy that it connects to the 2nd Street Trail, which really takes you all the way to University," said Commissioner Cantu.

The complete trail, according to Commissioner Cantu, should be completed in early 2026.
