BROWNSVILLE, Texas – A new kid of the lodging industry is in town.

Everhome Suites, a 24-room extended stay opened its doors in Brownsville in April but it held an open house on Thursday, June 5, for an afternoon filled with music, food, Tesla vehicles exhibits and the participation of several businesses.

The suites facility is the first in the Rio Grande Valley and the second one in Texas as the first one is in operation in Waco.

Some suites resemble a small apartment as they are equipped with laundry rooms, among other things.

Daniel Bustos, regional manager with Sandpiper Hospitality, which is a third party management company, said they are glad to be a member of the local business community.

“As you all know, is not easy to have a hotel up and running,” he said. ”But we have here a tremendous product to meet the needs of the extended travelers.”

Esmy Villarreal, CEO of the Brownsville Chamber of Commerce, welcomed the new kid in town, saying they are blessed to have Everhome Suites.

The lodging facility is the newest to open its doors and one of four scheduled to open.

So far, employees at SpaceX have been among the tenants as well as others staying in town for several days.

Brownsville residents Gilbert Castillo and Rene Guerrero said the new hotel is an example of the new economic development going in Brownsville today.

Castillo, who moved from California to Texas decades ago, said the city is not what is used to be back then.

“I see all kinds of activity today,” he said. “This is a nice place.”

Everhome Suites is a brand by Choice Hotels International, Inc.

It opened its first such facility in Corona, Calif, in 2022, and it has today about 14 hotels nationwide and 19 others under construction.
