Dr. Gary Joe Mounce, a professor emeritus at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, has penned a book based on his essays for the Rio Grande Guardian.
It is titled: “A Writing Fool: Tales of Mexico and the Rio Grande Valley,” and is available for purchase via Amazon.
Mounce was a professor of political science for over 50 years. He has been writing for the Guardian for the past 15 years.
“I love to write short stories. Though well into my 80’s I seem to not be able to stop writing; hence, some in my treasured family have called me a ‘writing fool’,’ Mounce said.
Some of his columns in the Guardian concern what he believes are dangers to our political systems, both American and Mexican.
“Others attempt to reach out to as many as possible in the reading public in this unique area, urging them to observe and appreciate their surroundings and our magnificent, significant neighbors in Mexico,” Mounce said.
Here is an in-depth interview with Mounce about the book, his upbringing, his career, and his writing.
