Mother in custody after toddler found wandering streets overnight

HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The mother of a toddler who was found wandering alone in Harlingen early Monday morning is in custody.

The 2-year-old child was found alone by a passerby at approximately 2:30 a.m. Monday near the intersection of Treasure Oaks and Haine Drive.

After several unsuccessful attempts to locate a parent, authorities decided to turn the child over to Child Protective Services.

Police say the toddler's mother reported the child missing approximately six hours after he was found wandering alone.

The mother was issued an arrest warrant for child endangerment. Her arraignment date has not been announced.

The case remains active and is currently under investigation.
