ALAMO, Texas (ValleyCentral) — An Edinburg mother was sentenced Wednesday in connection to the death of her 19-month-old child in 2020.
Crystal Angeles Pelayo was facing multiple charges, including capital murder, criminal negligent homicide and injury to a child in connection to the death of her toddler.
On Wednesday, Pelayo was sentenced to 25 years in jail after pleading guilty to a charge of injury to a child, serious bodily injury by omission, failing to intercede or stop physical abuse, court officials told ValleyCentral.
The remaining counts were dismissed.
Police arrested Pelayo and Hector Jose Sanchez in February 2020 in connection to the child's death. Previous ValleyCentral reports described the two as a couple.
Sanchez has a pre-trial hearing scheduled for July 26 and a jury trial scheduled for July 29.
