WESLACO, Texas – In the case of an emergency, residents do not have to call RGV 9-1-1. They can text a message instead, if they so wish.
This texting service has been in place for a decade but not enough people know about it, said Dennis Moreno, assistant director for RGV 9-1-1.
What is new is that residents can now text in any language, not just English. Moreno said this is an important new feature.
In an exclusive interview with the Rio Grande Guardian, Moreno also spoke about the need, in some cases, for residents to have their address changed so emergency services can find an address in a hurry.
Moreno gave the interview at the conclusion of a recent Lower Rio Grande Valley Small Cities Coalition meeting.
